Information on the Miniature Schnauzer


The Miniature Schnauzer originates from Germany and was bred originally for hunting rats and mice. It's origins can be dated back to the 1800's. The Miniature Schnauzer is also known by the other name of Zwergschnauzer. The word schnauzer means “small beard".  

The Miniature Schnauzer is an intelligent dog that is easily trained and likes to please, although it does not enjoy repetitive training for its own sake. The breed is contented and not destructive when left alone.

The Miniature Schnauzer stands between 12 and 14 inches is pepper and salt or black and silver or black in colour.

The coat is normally coarse and wiry which is non-shedding and as it is hair not fur it is a suitable dog for people with allergies.

 

Information on Grooming and Care of the Miniature Schnauzer


The Miniature Schnauzer requires weekly care and grooming. All dog breeds require a certain amount of grooming and care is necessary to keep dogs and puppies looking at their best. Grooming consists of not only brushing out the coat and bathing but also giving attention to the eyes, teeth, ears, feet and nails. A regular routine also ensures that any potential health problems are identified as quickly as possible, especially important in puppies and older Miniature Schnauzer dogs.
